Privacy Policy

In order to reach out to me, you need to provide your name and email. Both of those things are considered “personally identifiable information” (PII), which means that it’s important for you to know what I do to keep them private — that is, my privacy policy.

The purpose of this privacy policy is to help you understand how I, Jay Thompson, use and protect the data you provide me via use of my website, 2718consulting.com. (If you decide to work with me on your website, the relevant data policies will be outlined in our contract — this page is just about this website.)

This policy is current as of January 27th, 2025. It’s subject to change, as my business and the legal landscape of digital privacy are both actively evolving. Updates will be posted here on this page. If I have your email, I’ll also notify you via email whenever this policy is updated.

What data I collect:

When you fill out my contact form, I ask for your contact information. I also ask for a short explanation of what you’re looking for. Additionally, I use Google Analytics for my site analytics (more here).

Why I collect it:

I need your contact information so I can contact you! Additionally, asking for a description of your needs helps me understand what your goals are so that I can effectively respond to your inquiry. Google Analytics let me know how people find my website and what they do when they’re here. That way I can see what I’m doing that’s working well and what I need to change.

What I do with it:

I respond to your inquiry via email and then retain a copy of your form submission for one year on a secure drive for record-keeping purposes. If we correspond further, our follow-up correspondence will be filed in the same way for three years. Your information isn’t shared with any third party other than my form host (Jetpack) and my email provider (Google). I will NEVER collect sensitive data like financial/payment information via email.

I keep an eye on tech and cybersecurity news and make a point of engaging in regular software updates, maintenance, and purges. That matters because out-of-date or poorly maintained software is vulnerable to hackers. Consistently updating and maintaining my operating system and applications is an important part of my safeguarding your data.

Links to and embedded content from third parties

At times, I may link to or embed content (like images, articles, or videos) from other websites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website. Those other websites aren’t governed by this privacy policy; they may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I am not responsible for your data and privacy protection when interacting with these other websites, so please make sure to read their privacy policy documentation.

Tracking and Do Not Track requests:

I don’t share your PII with third parties, but I do use Google Analytics to help me manage my site. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, I will prevent Google Analytics from tracking your session. However, third-party embedded content (see above) may or may not respect your Do Not Track request.

Your rights:

At some point, you might want to know what information I have saved, to restrict its use, or to have me delete some or all of it. I believe strongly in the right to privacy and the right to be forgotten. Contact me via email and let me know what you need; I’ll work with you to get it done.

I will not lease, sell, or distribute your personal information to any third parties unless given permission or, for some reason, required to by law.
